Living Foods Market & Cafe’ opened in Kukui`ula Village late January to a host of local residents and visitors eager to fill their baskets with his home grown Kaua‘i produce. Living Foods Market features the island’s largest selection of organic, sustainable and locally grown produce in a prime 5,000 square feet retail space in the heart of Kukui’ula Village. Living Foods Market & Cafe’ is the brain child of Jim Moffat, acclaimed chef/owner of Bar Acuda restaurant in Hanalei.
“We have a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the island’s resources and do something extraordinary here at Kukui’ula,” said Jim Moffat. “Since the opening of my Bar Acuda restaurant four years ago, I’ve developed great working relationships with the farmers and growers on Kaua’i. Living Foods is just a small contribution towards ensuring the island’s self sufficiency and sustainability. So far we have received a very warm welcome and are eager for what is to come.”
In addition to an assortment of island-grown products, Living Foods features specialty gourmet goods, “green” household and lifestyle items and an extensive wine selection – over 400 labels with a strong emphasis on biodynamic and organic wines.
The market’s cafe’-style restaurant is open every day from 8am to 8pm, offering a simple European-style menu; from poached eggs, grilled panini sandwiches, pizzettas and crepes to Nicoise salads, and roasted chicken to enjoy on a 1,000+-square-foot open air deck. The cafe’ also roasts their own coffee on-site, with coffee beans from each of the Hawaiian islands, and serves a variety of espresso drinks and fresh fruit agua fresca throughout the day.
Living Foods also turns out homemade breads, pastries and charcuterie items, including sausages, salamis and pancetta, and the gourmet deli offers restaurant quality prepared foods and ready-to-grill organic items including marinated steak, chicken, duck, pork, lamb and seafood. All perfect for those nights you want something to cook at home that is delicious and quick!
